For the first time clinicians can cut the cord and use a high definition camera system that is unencumbered with wires and cables.
The ENDOPRO Elite is the world’s first cordless hand held camera system designed for multispecialty point of care/office use. Clinicians can now enhance their practices and provide their patients with state of the art visualization technology with minimal capital expenditure. The ENDOPRO Elite provides clinicians with instant 1080p HD imaging with video and still picture documentation. Used with both rigid and flexible scopes, the ergonomic, one-handed design enables clinicians to focus on their patients and not on operating the camera. The ENDOPRO Elite is powered by a long lasting, rechargeable lithium ion battery pack that powers the camera all day. The ENDOPRO Elite can also drive a secondary monitor that can be used as an auxiliary display for surgical procedures or for real time patient observation. Unlike other portable camera systems on the market, the ENDOPRO Elite is reusable and environmentally friendly with no disposable components that need to be put into landfills.
Gynecologists can enhance their practices by offering immediate diagnostic hysteroscopic examinations with either rigid or flexible scopes. Urologists can perform cystoscopic examinations and Otolaryngologists can perform nasal and laryngeal examinations instantly. The ENDOPRO Elite easily fits into patient workflow as it is easy to set up and can easily be transported from room to room, office to office. The days of relocating patients to a dedicated video exam room or rescheduling them to another office location in order to do a visual diagnostic procedure are a thing of the past with the introduction of the ENDOPRO Elite.
The ENDOPRO Elite isn’t just for clinical use either. Hospital biomedical engineers and sterile processing technicians can use the ENDOPRO Elite to check the visual acuity of scopes and integrity of lumens both pre and post processing. Veterinarians can also benefit from the use of the ENDOPRO Elite as it is a completely self-contained system that can be used in all fields of veterinary endoscopy. The versatility of the ENDOPRO Elite also reaches beyond the medical field into the industrial setting as it can be used with a boroscope for mechanical inspection purposes and much more.
With its economical acquisition price, you can purchase multiple camera systems for the same price as a single traditional camera system and you can replace your traditional camera system with a new ENDOPRO Elite system for less than the cost a single camera repair. AED has a complete range of both rigid and flexible scopes as well as sheaths and instruments to compliment the use of the ENDOPRO Elite.Visit them online at Endoscopy Superstore® (www.endoscopysuperstore.com) to learn more about the ENDOPRO Elite and see all of the scopes and accessories that are available.

The debate over repealing and replacing the Affordable Care Act, also known as ACA or Obamacare, is a growing concern in the medical world where it could leave millions without proper health care services. It is especially of a concern to both patients and hospitals alike since it is unclear whether they will replace it with a viable and comparable alternative.
We’re on a mission to help the healthcare industry with our products and services. Read more about it on our blog here.
In a study published in the American Journal of Obstetrics & Gynecology, researchers found that nearly 20% of all hysterectomies performed for benign conditions were unnecessary. AED uses advanced manufacturing technology to make state of the art instrumentation available at affordable prices so that gynecologists can afford a complete office hysteroscopy system to enable them to visualize, diagnose, and treat intrauterine pathology and reduce the number of unnecessary hysterectomies performed annually.

When Mylan Pharmaceuticals increased the price of EpiPens by 400%, it sparked national outrage. But when medical instrument manufacturers increase prices for products that haven’t been changed in decades, hospitals and surgery centers are silent, choosing to be complacent and pay more instead of looking out for their best interests.
Why do we continue to see a rise in the cost for instrumentation despite the the instruments used in surgery remain unchanged for decades?

The Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines sacred cow as: someone or something that has been accepted or respected for a long time and that people are afraid or unwilling to criticize or question.
Just do a Google search on “Sacred Cows in Nursing” and see how many results pop up.If you ask hospital buyers if they have ever purchased anything from Amazon or any other online retailer most would admit that they had- so why not with medical equipment?

With bundled payments being phased in as the new provider payment model, now is the time for laparoscopic surgeons to prepare for bundled payments for laparoscopic procedures. Laparoscopic surgery has been shown to reduce hospital stays and post-operative infections. Any post-operative incisional hernias that occur will no longer be reimbursable under bundled payments. It’s important to analyze each component involved with delivery of care from the time the patient enters the hospital to 30 days post-admission. Surgeons can ease this process by standardizing and streamlining what they use during procedures.
AED has launched their new Precise line of laparoscopic instruments which have been developed precisely for standardizing and streamlining. They are easy to use, easy to assemble, and easy to clean. AED’s Precise line, as well as their other products, are 30 percent to 60 percent less than other manufacturers, making them budget-friendly. This is especially important with the Affordable Care Act being in place.
Precise was developed in conjunction with surgeons and with input from nurses and sterile processing personnel. Precise instruments are designed to be modular for versatility and economy. They’re designed with first generation simplicity and third generation innovation. They are also color-coded for customization and instant identification in dark operating rooms. Each Precise forcep has a shaft insulated with a high-tech polymer and the precise action of the jaw offers excellent tactile feedback. Because they are easily assembled, reprocessing is much simpler. With 2 handle styles, 2 lengths, 2 diameters, and 46 popular jaw patterns, there are more than 4,000 possible combinations to satisfy the needs of many surgeons. A Precise instrument can be purchased for the same price as refurbishing or repairing a single component of an existing laparoscopic instrument.
Every instrument in a tray that doesn’t get used adds to the cost per procedure as the labor costs and wear and tear involved to process instrument trays continue to escalate. It is important to minimize the number of instruments that are processed continually. With reusable instruments, like the Precise forcep, hospitals save money and streamline the surgical process.

With increased patient visits and shrinking reimbursements, hospitals can no longer afford to be complacent in any area of operation. In order to survive, they need to adopt a culture of transparency to better compete for patients and increased reimbursements as they transition to accountable care organizations.
Medical device manufacturers, like Advanced Endoscopy Devices, are changing their sales strategies to become more transparent and meet hospitals’ needs.
Not too long ago, price transparency was just a buzzword. Now, it’s a survival strategy for hospitals of all sizes.
How do hospitals implement price transparency? They can start by moving away from reliance on GPO contracts. Hospital purchasing managers have become complacent and relied on GPO contracts to do their jobs. They purchase what is on the contract, trusting that the GPOs have their best interests and profit margins in mind when they negotiate vendor contracts on their behalf.
For example, a 2002 pilot study by the Government Accountability Office found that hospitals that went through GPOs paid more for safety needles and pacemakers than those that negotiated prices on their own. For some pacemakers, the median gap was as wide as 39 percent.
Today, makers of the costliest devices and equipment tend to be secretive about pricing and generally require buyers to sign gag clauses promising not to disclose what they’ve paid, which makes it even more difficult for hospitals to comparison shop. (In fact, this is one reason GPOs maintain their services are necessary.)
But, by using technology to streamline the sales process, manufacturers like AED can use e-commerce models to reduce overhead costs and pass these savings directly to the customer. This is why AED has launched Endoscopy Superstore, an online endoscopy shopping cart.
With Endoscopy Superstore’s launch, hospitals can instantly compare prices of endoscopy instruments from notable manufacturers as well as AED and purchase them directly. With a guaranteed savings of 30 to 60 percent, Endoscopy Superstore can help hospitals meet their budgetary needs in light of the Affordable Care Act. And now that endoscopic surgery is mainstream, hospitals no longer need sales reps to show surgeons and perioperative staff how to assemble and use these instruments. Endoscopy Superstore and AED take it to the next level by providing online tutorials on instrument assembly/disassembly and inservices.

Earlier in May, Advanced Endoscopy Devices, Inc. launched a program to help hospitals adapt to challenges of the Affordable Care Act, also known as ObamaCare. As facilities transition from a fee for service model, Sophia Najafi, marketing associate at Advanced Endoscopy Devices, Inc., said facilities needed to find ways to reduce cost without jeopardizing quality. She said this program will reduce costs, because AED will work directly with hospitals, instead of working through a distributor, and keep pricing transparent by listing contract prices online. “We feel this program will expand in our industry. Hospitals will be able to purchase products online at a better price without having sales representatives coming to them,” Najafi said. “Hospitals can get all the information about our products online and compare them to current prices which will allow them to manage their time more easily and save more money.”
Surgical Products was curious how a program like this would work, so it connected with Najafi.
SP: What could surgical teams expect if their facility adopts this program?
Najafi: Surgical teams can expect to get product information, pricing, instructions for use, and product availability immediately. Product availability has been a big concern; hospitals would have to call sales representatives to see if the product they wanted was available. But the biggest benefit of our program is that all that information is readily available online. Hospitals will also save money without losing quality. Whether they’re purchasing brand new instruments or simply getting a repair, they’ll get top of the line medical instruments and endoscopes that will last them for years to come. They will also have access to easy-to-follow video tutorials which trains surgical teams how to properly care for their instruments.
SP: How does this reflect changes in healthcare?
Najafi: As hospitals become more aware of cost, they’ll do more purchasing online for their products the same way people would shop online for personal items. This hasn’t been available to the medical community before. All our product information, prices, and instructions for use are readily available online so hospitals will be more comfortable making purchases without pressure from sales representatives. This way, hospitals can make better and more informed decisions. We streamline the supply chain and pass the savings directly onto the hospitals. It provides them with a huge cost savings for minimally invasive surgery (MIS) as they go from fee-for-service models towards becoming Accountable Care Organizations
SP: Who typically initiates this change?
Najafi: Hospitals have had to re-evaluate themselves in light of the Affordable Care Act. These changes can be made by the purchasing team who want to manage time more effectively. They can be done by CFOs who look at budgets and want to get the best product for the best price. Or they can even be done by IDNs and big buying groups who can get product information without bids which can take about three to six months.

Just as hospitals have had to re-invent themselves in the wake of the Affordable Care Act, Advanced Endoscopy Devices, Inc. (AED) has re-invented itself to provide the medical community with the tools it needs to reduce the costs of Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS) as they go from fee-for-service models towards becoming Accountable Care Organizations.
AED’s new program lowers the cost of MIS by re-engineering how hospitals and surgery centers acquire and maintain their instrument inventories. By manufacturing and distributing to hospitals directly, AED streamlines the supply chain and passes the savings directly to hospitals. AED also provides comprehensive repair services for all manufacturer’s endoscopic equipment enabling hospitals to manage the total cost of instrument ownership. AED has even developed online educational tools and online ordering with complete price transparency. Compare AED’s prices online to current contract prices to see how much can be saved. AED’s innovative Precise line of laparoscopic instruments are up to 70% less expensive than comparable laparoscopic instruments.
AED has been at the forefront of MIS surgery since 1985. As one of the largest OEM sources for manufacturing and repairs, surgeons have probably used an AED instrument at one time or another. Their experience has enabled them to refine and develop the highest quality AED-brand rigid endoscopes and instruments for Laparoscopy, Arthroscopy, Urology, Hysteroscopy, and ENT. AED provides hospitals and surgery centers with the same high quality instruments and scopes they are used to using but at significant cost savings.
